About

"We moeten onderduiken", probeert de Joodse Eli Asser (1922) zijn ouders te overtuigen. Ze weigeren dit, want ze vinden dat vluchtende Joden anderen in gevaar brengen. In 1942 ontkomt Eli Asser aan de Arbeitseinsatz door als verpleger te gaan werken in de Joodse psychiatrische inrichting Het Apeldoornse Bosch. Zijn vriendinnetje Eefje Croiset haalt hem daar op de avond voor de ontruiming over om te vluchten. Dit redt hun leven. De 1.300 patiënten en vijftig verplegers wacht de dood in Auschwitz. Vader, moeder en zusje Rebecca Asser komen om in Sobibor.
