About
Herve Cheradame discussed his current research on the use of aminoalkylalkoxysilanes in paper conservation. Several experiments were described, leading to discussion of the role of the structure of the molecule responsible for the deacidification effect and the improvement of mechanical properties, as well as the role of residual moisture and the role of the solvent in paper deacidification. Potential implications for the use of aminoalkyalkoxysilanes for a mass-scale deacidification process were discussed.
