About
With the return of Godzilla in theaters, Spook Show celebrates with some cool Godzilla clips and whatnot! When I was a kiddo, our local ABC affiliate would show movies on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. This is where I saw so many cool movies. Sword and sandal (or sword and sinew as my pal Dave Goode likes to call it…), westerns, sci-fi, martial arts, and of course Godzilla movies. We saw Godzilla vs. Megalon, Godzilla vs. the Bionic Monster (aka Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla, Cinema Shares brought it to the states with the new title Godzilla vs. the Bionic Monster. Cinema Shares was supposedly threatened by Universal with a lawsuit over the use of the word “bionic” and they then changed the name to Godzilla vs. the Cosmic Monster), and Godzilla On Monster Island (aka Godzilla vs. Gigan) over and over and over again. Eventually movies on Saturday and Sunday afternoons ended. Replaced with infomercials and network programming. I now have all of the Godzilla movies in my collection, but there was something special about flicking on the TV on a Saturday morning. Watching cartoons. American Bandstand. Wrestling (out of Memphis, Tennessee). Then crossing our little fingers that we’d see the old Cinema Shares logo and hoping even harder we were about to see …. Godzilla!
