About
Lincoln, facing the crisis of a divided nation, was forced to turn for help to General George McClellan, who thought the President was an "idiot", and who supported Southern positions on slavery and states' rights. The conflict between Lincoln and McClellan was intense from the start and before their uneasy partnership ended it became one of the strangest stories in American history
