About
Commercial breaks taken during "Meet My Folks" and "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" on NBC affiliate KRBC in Abilene, Texas.
At the time, LIN Television owned the station, and had just acquired it the previous year when it bought out Sunrise Television. However, LIN was in the process of selling KRBC to Nexstar's partner company Mission Broadcasting, which would close that summer. I don't think LIN was looking to get rid of KRBC insomuch as Nexstar, who already owned CBS affiliate, was looking to create virtual duopolies in as many smaller markets as possible. They saw an opportunity to create one with KRBC and Mission made an offer to LIN, who accepted.
In late 2004, KTAB left its longtime, smaller facilities and moved into KRBC's older, but much larger building, which had a second studio, allowing the two stations to keep doing news at the same time (unlike most Nexstar virtual duopolies, there is significant overlap in news timeslots at the Abilene operation between the two stations).
Coincidentally, Nexstar bought out Media General in 2016, which had come to absorb LIN, and so KRBC has since been reunited with most of that former group.
