About
Created by two masters of martial arts for American Champion Entertainment and PeopleNet, Adventures with Kanga Roddy is a rare live-action PBS Kids series premiering in KTEH in 1998 through 2000. The plots for each episode go like this: children from a community centre encounter a problem, so they visit Pat Morita (and his assistant, Shakespeare)'s bookstore in order answer the problem where he transports the kids into the magical land of Hi-Yah. In there, Kanga Roddy and his friends solve the problem that kid is facing through song and dance numbers and flashbacks to his various lessons he has learned with Zatochi or his many parallels with Tackle Bear, and in the end, the kids return to the community centre to recap the lesson they've learned with their teachers. Rise, rinse and repeat.
The series lasted for 26 episodes in two seasons before getting the yank on KTEH and Kanga Roddy disappeared and was never heard from us ever again. Well, except for people who worked on it, especially Yippee Coyote, who he appears in here as his Hi-Yah counterpart Chaka! The regular Yippee makes a cameo in the season 2 episode Try to Remember. He even has a VHS of the episode, and is interested in digitizing the episode to make it found media. The lost media community depends on Chaka...
Speaking of, select episodes are released in very rare out-of-print VHS tapes. These tapes aren't available in modern times anymore, so if you happened to still have it in good condition, congratulations! You hold a piece of lost media right into your hands!
This archive contains two episodes of series one. One of which is a reupload of HomeStarRunToon's upload of the We Are Family episode (he cut out the cover of the titular song when he uploaded to YouTube in order to avoid a possible copyright take down). So in case if it gets taken down in the foreseeable future, you're lucky enough to have a mirror copy.
Oh, and I forgot to mention, the series also has a PC edutainment game, entitled The Journey to Snow Mountain, which currently remains abandonware.
