Recovered Walks — Found Footage Archive (2022–2024)
This archival collection preserves a body of recovered walking recordings originally filmed between 2022 and 2024 throughout New York City.
The works were recorded using an iPhone 13 and handheld gimbal stabilization, documenting ordinary urban life through uninterrupted movement, natural sound, weather, silence, and real-time observation.
These recordings originate from earlier phases of the Alone In America Walks project — before the later formalization of the Filmic Walks archive — and therefore preserve an earlier rhythm, structure, and visual language of the work.
No narration.
No staging.
No scripted performance.
Only the city as it existed in passing moments.
The collection contains recovered walking videos preserved from older YouTube uploads after many original master files were lost. What survives are the highest-quality recoverable versions sourced from platform archives and streaming copies.
Visible compression, bitrate limitations, and digital artifacts remain present throughout parts of the archive due to YouTube’s transcoding system. These traces are intentionally preserved as part of the historical continuity of the recordings themselves.
These files are not presented as technical masters.
They are preserved as surviving digital artifacts.
