About
I Wake Up Screaming (originally titled Hot Spot) is a 1941 American mystery/film-noir. Directed by H. Bruce Humberstone and starring Betty Grable, Victor Mature and Carole Landis, (One of Grable's few dramatic roles).
The story proceeds largely through a series of flashbacks. Beginning with manager Frankie Christopher, being grilled by police in the murder of model Vicky Lynn. and the cops want to pin the killing on him. Not having enough evidence to hold Christopher for the murder, detective Ed Cornell lets him go, but is absolutely certain of Christopher's guilt and vows to bring him to justice. Hounded by Cornell, Christopher turns to Jill (Vicky Lynn's sister), who had not liked him very much. But the more Vicky finds out about Frankie, the less she suspects him of the crime. the detective in charge of the case (Laird Cregar) develops a morbid obsession with punishing Frankie, leading to a shocking conclusion.
