About

This is a half-hour videocassette produced by the (now defunct) Intersex Society of North America, capturing a conversation held at the "world's first intersex retreat" held in northern California in 1996. This is a vulnerable and informative document that still holds up nearly 25 years later, despite how dated some of the language has become in the meantime. Fair warning that, although the footage itself is not graphic, participants share stories that are very upsetting.

From the ISNA website: "Imagine growing up knowing you were different, not quite knowing why and feeling like you were the only person in the world like you. Meet Angela, David, Heidi, Tom, Mani, Cheryl, Max and Hida as they tell their stories of growing up intersexed. Share their joy at finally meeting other people who are intersexed. Be amazed as you witness intersex people speaking out for the first time in their lives!"

The ISNA website is still up, although it hasn't been updated since 2008. You can visit it here: https://isna.org/
