About

Evil Dead 2 Mexican TV version - over 26 minutes of deleted and alternate scenes. Restored by Garrett Gilchrist.

Much of the violence had to be cut out of the television version, so Sam Raimi and company padded the film out with additional footage. It was not shown in the US and remains a very rare version of the film.

One scene of the piano emitting steam is also present in the leaked, partial workprint of the film, so it nearly made it to the final cut. (The workprint also contains a little bit extra of Ash on the bridge.)

The film was not intended to be seen this way, but the extra footage is interesting.

Many gore effects were cut from Evil Dead 2 before its release, and they do not appear in this TV cut, which already cut the gore heavily. The gore effects can be seen in behind the scenes home video footage (such as on the original blood red laserdisc, and in The Gore The Merrier, a DVD featurette) but the actual footage appears to no longer exist.

That means that this cut, which contains extra footage, is very nearly the only real deleted scene footage which has been released from Evil Dead 2.

Evil Dead II: "Severely Edited For Television"

Bruce Campbell says:

"Editing Evil Dead II for television was an absurd endeavour. The film, in its uncut state, races on through so much carnage and mayhem without so much as a second glance from my character and it all seems like a twisted Warner Bros. cartoon. Cutting the violence down, and lingering on my horrified expression, made the violence seem far more real and disturbing. Whatever the case, the film has never seen the light of network TV and most likely never will."

There's a lot of extra shots of the set.

Ash dances with Linda. Ash burn the Book of the Dead and cries over Linda's necklace. Ash eats cereal while driving and chokes on the prize.

Ash has a freakout in the workshed after destroying Linda's head. The scene of Ash laughing as the room laughs with him is longer. Jake gets angry at Evil Ed. Bobbie Jo's death is longer. Evil Ash eats a squirrel.

Human-made No record of this work says a model made it. What this means.
