Apologies for the first 25 seconds and the noise (sounding like a stuck Star Trek phaser)
DVD Transfer 86 was recorded on December 22, 2002 from WVBT-TV 43 (the Norfolk, VA FOX affiliate) and ran long (apparently it was set long either because it was uncertain whether FOX had a doubleheader and/or in case the game went into overtime)
CONTENTS
1. FOX NFL Sunday (the original 1994-95 FOX NFL Sunday crew {James Brown, Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long, Jimmy Johnson} had officially been reunited by then - for 2002 after Cris Collinsworth was promoted to the lead FOX crew alongside fellow new promotions Joe Buck and Troy Aikman following Pat Summerall entering semi-retirement and John Madden leaving for ABC for the first few weeks of the season FOX used a rotation for the fourth slot. Featured segments include: A football-themed cover of "Winter Wonderland"; an update of the playoff picture in both the AFC {the Minnesota Vikings game-winning field goal in overtime over the Dolphins that Saturday put Miami at the brink of elimination; the defending champion Patriots needed to win out to have a shot at clinching the AFC East; Miami - with a win over New England in Week 17 - still had a shot at the division title, as did the New York Jets if they won out; both the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans could clinch at least a wild-card with a win; the Pittsburgh Steelers could wrap up the AFC North with a win over Tampa Bay on Monday Night and the Oakland Raiders could wrap up home-field advantage if they won out} and NFC {the San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles had won on the previous day, and the Eagles needed a win vs. the New York Giants in Week 17 to lock up home-field advantage; the Giants along with the New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons were still in contention for a wild-card but New York needed to win out and get help; the Buccaneers - leading the NFC South {or as Howie called it, the "NASCAR Division"} - needed to beat the Steelers on Monday Night to clinch the division}; FOX Watch {reports from Joe Buck at Indianapolis for the Giants-Colts game; Curt Menefee at Cincinnati for the Saints-Bengals game {Saints just had to win to clinch a playoff spot}; Dick Stockton at Atlanta for the Lions-Falcons game {Falcons also were in a "win-and-in" situation} and Brian Baldinger at Charlotte for Bears-Panthers {final home game for Carolina TE Wesley Walls}; a mention during a tease of FOX's main late game between the St. Louis Rams and Seattle Seahawks that Seattle head coach Mike Holmgren would be returning for 2003 as head coach {but only as head coach, as Holmgren was relieved of his duties as general manager}; weather with Jillian Barberie {who jokes that Howie gave her a $5 gift card for RadioShack}; picks with Jimmy Kimmel {Kimmel - who had one foot out the door as he was preparing to launch Jimmy Kimmel Live on ABC - is joined by "Santa Fridge" {former Chicago Bears defensive tackle William Perry}; Cousin Sal and decides to play "Oklahoma Knights" from that brief period where someone thought having Troy Aikman try his hand at a country music career was a good idea before picking the Ravens, Falcons, Raiders and - as his upset special - the Giants {Kimmel went 3-1 in his picks, missing only on the Ravens pick}; response by Troy alongside Joe Buck and Cris Collinsworth; Check It Out {look at non-FOX games such as Bills-Packers [Buffalo needed a win to keep their faint playoff hopes alive]; Patriots-Jets [in addition to both of those teams along with the Dolphins in a battle for the AFC East; New England was looking to sweep the Jets for the first time since 1996]; Chargers-Chiefs [San Diego lost 3 of their last 4; Kansas City in must-win situation]; Broncos-Raiders [Denver having lost 6 of their last 7 road games against division rivals]; Titans-Jaguars [Jacksonville still had an outside shot at playoffs; Tennessee not only could win and get in but a win and an Indianapolis loss clinched the AFC South]; Browns-Ravens [battle of 7-7 teams]; Redskins-Texans [Houston QB David Carr sacked 70 times coming in, 2 shy of record set by the Philadelphia Eagles in 1986 for most sacks allowed] and Steelers-Buccaneers [the Monday nighter was also a rematch from the previous year that saw Steeler safety Lee Flowers dub Tampa Bay as a "paper champ"]; report that Deion Sanders - working for CBS - might be available to play for Oakland in the playoffs}; Cris Collinsworth sharing ideas on what he would do to improve the sorry state of his old team, the Bengals; John Czarnecki joining the crew for the Sprint Covers the Field segment on how the Colts would try to stop Giants defensive end Michael Strahan; Terry interviewing Colts head coach {and one-time teammate in Pittsburgh} Tony Dungy and final thoughts {focused on the deal between Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and Bill Parcells all but being done})
2. NFL on FOX (Week 16; Detroit Lions at Atlanta Falcons; the 8-5-1 Falcons punched their playoff ticket with a 36-15 win over the 3-11 Lions. Calling the game are FOX's B-crew of Dick Stockton {whose broadcast partner from 1994-2000, Matt Millen, was in the second year of his reign of error as Lions general manager}, Daryl "Moose" Johnston and sideline reporter Ron Pitts)
3. Just Shoot Me ("How the Finch Stole Christmas" {S3E10 - didn't normally watch or record this, so the tape must have been left running long while at church and probably either had a special church function {this being the Sunday before Christmas that year} or went out to dinner)
4. Buffy the Vampire Slayer ("The Weight of the World" {S5E21 - penultimate episode before moving from WB to UPN. We DEFINITELY didn't normally record or watch this, but including only for the sake of completeness})
5. She Spies ("Fondles" {S1E5; tape ran out})
