(Critical) This program illustrates the LeBoyer method of nonviolent childbirth. The concept of maternal-fetal bonding is discussed. The controversy surrounding the LeBoyer delivery and comparison with conventional childbirth techniques are presented through interviews with obstetricians, psychologists and parents, but the bias is obviously in favor of the former. The argument is very emotionally founded; allegations of long-term effects on personality and psychologic development have yet to be scientifically supported. Conventional childbirth is characterized as violent and damaging, again assertions which are not established in fact. This excellent production displays narration and photography of superior quality. It is recommended for use under the supervision of an informed discussion leader
