About

From the Collection of Dr. Stevanne “Dr. Toy” Auerbach

An educational documentary series installment on marketing principles, produced for classroom use and distributed through PBS. Running approximately 28 minutes, the program uses extended case studies of four companies to illustrate core marketing concepts including market segmentation, consumer and trade promotion, competitive positioning, distribution strategy, international expansion, and early internet marketing. The four featured companies are Coca-Cola, K'Nex Industries (a construction toy manufacturer based in Hatfield, Pennsylvania), Sprint, and Tylenol.

Each case study is built around interviews with company marketing executives and interspersed with explanatory narration. K'Nex is described as having launched in 1992 and identifies Lego, Mattel, Meccano, and Steel Tech as primary competitors. Sprint's segment addresses residential versus business customer segmentation and international market strategy. The program closes by framing marketing as a process of identifying customer needs and profitably delivering products that satisfy them.
