About
Yoga Practice for Energy is a Living Arts and Yoga Journal production hosted by Rodney Yee and organized around the natural cycle of the day and the five classical elements. The practice contains no spoken verbal instruction during the sequences; all pose cues are delivered through on-screen text labels only, allowing the practitioner to focus on movement, breath, and sensation. Yee identifies the program's structure and philosophy in a spoken narration segment that follows the main practice, around the 51-minute mark.
The five segments correspond to five elements: Awakening covers reclined warm-up poses including knee-to-chest, leg stretches, cross-legged stretches, reclining twists, and table and downward dog transitions, corresponding to the earth element at sunrise. Centering is a flowing standing sequence with Tree, Triangle, Side Stretch, Exalted Warrior, Proud Warrior, Half Moon, and Revolved Triangle, corresponding to water. Creativity is a sun salutation vinyasa sequence with lunge, plank, upward dog, and downward dog, corresponding to fire. Reflection covers one-legged forward bends, cobbler, and seated forward bends, corresponding to air. Surrender is a final relaxation sequence corresponding to ether. A spoken appendix at 54:14 covers prop modifications for each segment using straps, blocks, and bolsters.
