About
A 2002 Scholastic Video Collection release presenting five animated and illustrated adaptations of Maurice Sendak picture books in a single continuous program separated only by brief musical transitions, with no chapter breaks between stories.
The first story is Where the Wild Things Are, narrated in full following the original 1963 text: Max wears his wolf suit, makes mischief, is sent to bed without supper, sails to the land of the wild things, is crowned their king, calls the wild rumpus, sends the wild things to bed without supper, and returns home to find his supper still hot. The second is Alligators All Around, a 1962 alphabet book in which alligators perform an action for each letter from A through Z. The third is Pierre, a 1962 cautionary tale in which a boy named Pierre responds to every situation with the phrase I don't care, is eaten by a lion, and learns to care after surviving from inside the lion's stomach. The fourth is One Was Johnny, a 1962 counting book that counts from one to ten as creatures arrive in Johnny's room and then counts back to one as he frightens them away. The fifth is Chicken Soup with Rice, a 1962 poem in which the narrator describes eating chicken soup with rice in each month of the year from January through December. The tape is produced by Scholastic and is consistent with classroom and library use.
