About
Matthew Margolis, known to his PBS audience as Uncle Matty, hosts this dog training special presented by WGBH Boston. His method is built on command, correction, and praise with no punishment, and the program covers breed personalities, three types of canine aggression with live demonstrations, a full personality evaluation on a rescue poodle named Truman, and the importance of bonding before formal training begins. Margolis collaborated on related books with co-author Mordecai Siegal.
The second half covers hands-on training with owner-and-dog pairs: heel, down for both small and large dogs, and come. A well-trained dog demonstration shows the finished result. Problem behaviors covered are food begging and table stealing, housebreaking using Margolis's five-piece puzzle of scheduling, diet, odor neutralizing, confinement, and proper correction, and car safety. Total runtime is approximately 65 minutes.
