About
A scenic aerial and ground-level travelogue through Italy set almost entirely to instrumental music with sparse narration. The tape moves through Tuscany and its hilltop towns, Siena (identified as La Mata, the beloved), Pisa and its 12th-century leaning bell tower where Galileo studied gravity, the walled cities of Umbria, Assisi and Saint Francis, the Italian countryside with its grapes and tomatoes, Venice (La Serenissima), the Grand Canal and Rialto Bridge, the Po River from the Adriatic to the French Alps, Genoa as Italy's largest seaport and birthplace of Christopher Columbus, Verona and its echoes of the Montagues and Capulets, elegant Treviso, the vineyards of La Provincia di Venezia producing Pinot Grigio, the Tyrolean Alps, and Lake Como described as Italy's northernmost lake.
The tape closes with a narrated reflection: "To know Italy is to discover her soul, and that, fortunately, takes a lifetime." The program is primarily musical with very limited spoken content.
