About
Victoria Johnson, a Portland, Oregon fitness celebrity and the first fitness athlete signed by Nike as an endorsed athlete, leads this 30-minute step and free weight combination workout. Exercisers Terry and Debbie demonstrate advanced and intermediate modifications throughout. The intro covers step height selection (4 inches for beginners, 6 to 8 for intermediate, never above 8), weight selection (1 to 5 pounds depending on level), proper foot placement with the whole foot on the platform, and heart rate monitoring in 6-second counts. A phone number for additional Victoria Johnson workout tapes is given at the start.
The workout moves from a side-to-side lunge warm-up through two aerobic step combinations: step-over-and-tap with progressive pivot turns and squats, then walking down the step with knee lifts and jazz squares. A sculpting section pairs step movements with bicep curls, hamstring curls with tricep extensions, and upright rows with rear lunges, followed by a heart rate check. Isolation work covers glute-focused step lunges, abductor leg lifts, tricep dips off the step, push-ups from the step, and seated reverse crunches and oblique rotation. The cool-down stretches the hip flexors and quadriceps using the step.
