About
Construction Foreman Dave gets to pretend for the day at demolition sites, high-rise construction sites, road paving operations, and the future home of the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles. The program opens with Magic School Bus and Real Animals pre-roll promos before the main content begins. At a demolition site run by the Penhall Company, superintendent Jim Hayden explains how a hydraulic hammer excavator breaks up concrete, a cruncher attachment bites through rebar, and loaders haul debris into high-sided dump trucks for recycling. A 26-story building site follows, where deep foundation drilling and reinforced concrete beam fabrication lead up to a 225-ton crawler crane operated by Crane Operator Jim and a 240-foot tower crane with Mike at the controls.
Tracy Yost, an operating engineer, operates a Great-Old forklift that carries up to 8,000 pounds while Dave borrows her radio to prematurely shut down the entire crew. The program then follows road construction from bulldozer grading through concrete paving and grooving, with a historical segment on Caterpillar machines from 1929 to 1935. At the Getty Center, Dave rides a man mover temporary elevator ten stories up and watches steel girder welding before a dream sequence in which he drives a bulldozer, backhoe, and loader. The series promo closes the tape.
