About
In February 1992, Richard C. Hoagland, a former science consultant to Walter Cronkite and CBS News during the Apollo missions and founder of The Enterprise Mission, presented his Cydonian hypothesis to an audience at the United Nations. This extended version of that briefing makes the case that formations in the Cydonia region of Mars, including a mesa resembling a human face and a nearby set of pyramidal structures, represent the ruins of an ancient intelligent civilization rather than natural geological features. Hoagland argues that geometric relationships between the formations encode mathematical constants including pi and the golden ratio.
The transcript consists almost entirely of music and silence markers with no recoverable spoken content, consistent with a slide-based presentation captured on tape. The extended version includes additional footage from space shuttle Discovery. The material was released on VHS by BC Video, New York.
