About
Dolphins and Orcas is a 30-minute nature film by world-renowned marine photographer and filmmaker Bob Talbot, shot over more than two decades using high-speed cameras capable of exposing film at up to 500 frames per second. The film is wordless, set entirely to music from Mannheim Steamroller, and is structured in five sections: spotted dolphins, pilot whales (with oceanic whitetip shark footage), a pod of spotted dolphins on a sandbank in the Bahamas, orcas breaching off British Columbia, and a closing medley. Talbot's orca footage here directly preceded his work on Free Willy; a rough cut of the orca sequence from this film was what convinced Richard Donner to hire him for that production.
