About
Host Rusty Kern presents Volume 5 of the Playset Video Collector series, covering Marx TV Playsets of the 1950s and 1960s. Collectors Francis Turner, David Schaefer, Gary Linden, and Rick Eber demonstrate sets from their collections while Frank Rice, who served as Chief Playset Designer at the Marx Company, provides historical context throughout. The program uses the Atomo screen format, with each collector showing their sets on camera.
Sets covered in order are the Roy Rogers Western Ranch in its multiple variations from 1952 onward, then several space sets including Rex Mars, Tom Corbett, Captain Space Solar, and Space Patrol, followed by the Jungle Gym, Daktari from 1967, Wagon Train, Gunsmoke Dodge City, Wyatt Earp figure variants, Gallant Men, Zorro from 1958, Johnny Tremaine, the Untouchables, F-Troop, Johnny Ringo, and the Flintstones. The Flintstones set is opened on camera for the first time since 1961 using a staple remover sent by Frank Rice, making it the closing highlight of the tape.
