About
Step Workout is a low-impact aerobic exercise video hosted by Denise Austin. Austin opens with a description of the program's four segments: warm-up and pre-stretch, 25 minutes of aerobic stepping, toning exercises for the inner and outer thighs and abdominals, and a post-stretch for relaxation. Before the workout begins, she covers stepping posture guidelines including soft knees, tight abdominals, chest up, and neck aligned, and gives technique tips including stepping to the center of the platform, placing the full sole down when stepping up, landing on the ball of the foot when stepping down, and always glancing at the platform before each step. Step height guidelines are provided based on experience level.
The aerobic stepping section runs 25 minutes and uses a variety of step patterns at moderate intensity. The toning section isolates the inner and outer thighs and abdominals using floor exercises. The post-stretch segment closes the workout with relaxation-focused flexibility work. Austin recommends following ACSM guidelines of aerobic activity three to five times per week and advises starting slowly and progressing at the individual's own pace. A mat and an adjustable step platform are required. The program runs approximately 46 minutes.
