About

Spontaneous Healing is a long-form interview and lecture program featuring Dr. Andrew Weil, Harvard Medical School graduate and author of the number-one bestseller Spontaneous Healing. The program opens with Weil's core thesis: spontaneous healing is not a rare event or miracle but a normal biological function built into every human body through what he calls the healing system. He argues that the body can interact with carcinogens without developing cancer, with allergens without allergic reactions, and with pathogens without infection, and that the role of medicine should be to support and enhance this innate system rather than suppress or replace it.

Weil critiques conventional medicine's near-exclusive reliance on pharmaceutical intervention, citing the statistical certainty that any patient on long-term drug treatment will eventually experience an adverse reaction ranging from minor to fatal. He introduces several documented cases of spontaneous remission and healing through non-conventional means, including dietary change, herbal remedies, osteopathic breathing work, and psychological transformation. Segments cover the mind-body connection, the role of breath as described by his mentor Dr. Robert Fulford (an osteopath who believed restricted breathing caused ear infections), the limitations of tonsil and adenoid removal as practiced in the 1950s, and the immune system's role in healing. Weil discusses his book's blue-section drug reference, stinging nettles as an herbal hay fever remedy, and strategies for patients facing conditions where conventional medicine offers only pharmaceutical or surgical options. The program runs approximately 74 minutes.
