About
Sign With Your Baby is a 60-minute training video produced by Sign2Me Early Learning for the Complete Learning Kit developed by researcher and ASL interpreter Dr. Joseph Garcia. Garcia's research, conducted at Alaska Pacific University beginning in 1987 and published in 1994, demonstrated that hearing babies exposed to ASL signs regularly between six and seven months of age can begin signing expressively by their eighth or ninth month. The program introduces the kit components: the training video, a 145-sign illustrated book, and a quick reference guide with 54 of the most popular signs. Expert commentary comes from child development authority Dr. Burton White and speech-language pathologist Alice Stroutzos.
The program advocates starting with three to five signs such as more, eat, and milk, building gradually as the child responds. Parent testimonials and family visit footage illustrate real-world outcomes, including children signing at 10 to 11 months. Garcia emphasizes that fluency in ASL is not required, and that signing accelerates rather than delays spoken language development. The video closes with a 13-minute illustrated sign dictionary covering common vocabulary including girl, go, sorry, and sore throat. Products available at sign2me.com.
