About
Shalom Sesame: Kings Sing Israel (Grouches Don't) is part of the eleven-volume home video series co-produced by Children's Television Workshop and Israel Educational Television, combining characters from Sesame Street and its Israeli counterpart Rechov Sumsum. The episode is framed as a competition between Shirat HaShirim, the Song of Songs Show, hosted by Kippi Ben Kippod, and the Rasha Rashi Noise of Noises Show hosted by Moishe Oofnik, the Israeli counterpart to Oscar the Grouch. Guest star Sarah Jessica Parker appears as the main celebrity, with additional guest appearances by B.B. King, Itzhak Perlman, and Paul Shaffer.
Oscar the Grouch travels from America to appear on Oofnik's noise show. The episode follows the familiar Shalom Sesame structure of bilingual Hebrew and English content, introducing Israeli culture and Jewish traditions to American audiences through songs, Muppet sketches, and celebrity interactions. Also featuring Ernie and Bert, known on Rechov Sumsum as Arik and Benz. Produced by the American Friends of Rechov Sumsum with support from the Charles H. Revson Foundation.
