About
Rhythmic Wisdom Frame Drum is an instructional video on frame drum technique. The program opens with a spoken meditation on the drum's connection to the mother's blood and the origins of human drumming, followed by a long uninterrupted performance section. Spoken instruction resumes with four-stroke combination patterns, tock strengthening and paradiddle exercises drawn from Stick Control, eight-beat rhythms, brushing stroke rhythms, and interlocking of two patterns performed with a second drummer named Tommy.
The second half covers fast kaa technique drawn from South Indian kanjira playing using a split-hand ki-ti-ta-ka approach, incorporating kititaka into combinations, tock roll exercises using a 4-3-2-4 finger sequence, advanced alternating tock rolls, and finger snap technique on the drum edge. The closing section demonstrates the tambourine, a pandeiro-style tambourine, the bandera snare frame drum, and the kanjira, followed by closing words on practice and a final performance of Bumba Meiboi rhythms from Brazil.
