About
Rescue 911 World's Greatest Rescues compiles five internationally sourced emergency rescue cases presented by the television series Rescue 911. The program opens with a statement saluting rescuers worldwide before presenting the Auckland, New Zealand case from August 9, 1990, in which 12-year-old Shirley Young was rescued from beneath a burning petrol tanker by firefighter Roy Kennedy of the Manukau Fire Station after more than forty minutes. A second segment covers the Liege, Belgium overpass incident of June 1, 1989, in which the Cheslin family's car was left suspended nearly one hundred feet in the air by a trailer hitch, with rescue organized by truck driver Christian Vande Velt.
A Moscow, Russia segment from April 6, 1995 documents a militia assault on a barricade held by terrorist Mansur on Petrovka Street, resulting in the death of one hostage and Mansur. The Austrian Alps segment from June 22, 1991 follows skier Michael's rescue from an underground glacier river near Innsbruck after a sixty-foot fall, located using a listening device after more than two hours. The final segment covers the October 23, 1989 Charles Stewart case in Boston, Massachusetts, in which dispatcher Gary McLaughlin tracked shooting victims by cellular phone before the case was later revealed to involve Stewart's own involvement in his wife Carol's death.
