About

Legacy is a dramatic feature film produced by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, presenting early LDS history through the eyes of Eliza Williams, a young convert who follows Joseph Smith's call to gather with the Saints. The narrative spans from her baptism in the early 1830s through the Mormon expulsion from Missouri, the martyrdom of Joseph Smith, and the pioneer exodus to the Salt Lake Valley in 1847. Central characters include Eliza's estranged brother Johnny, David Walker, a British convert who becomes Eliza's husband, and Brother Jacob, a steadfast quorum leader.

The film depicts key historical episodes including the mob violence at Far West, Missouri and the massacre near Haun's Mill, the construction of the Nauvoo Temple, and Brigham Young's leadership following Smith's murder at Carthage Jail. Production recreates period settings across Ohio, Missouri, Illinois, and the trek west. The film closes with Eliza, an elderly woman in Salt Lake City, presenting a copy of the Book of Mormon given to her personally by Joseph Smith to a young grandchild, charging him to carry forward "this legacy of faith."
