About

Predators is a nature documentary tracing predation across the animal kingdom, framed by the thesis that in the struggle between predator and prey there is neither good nor evil, only co-participants in the natural order. The narrator argues against equating predation solely with large carnivores, opening instead with the kingfisher, a fly-catching caterpillar from Hawaii, the Indian civet, raccoon, river otter, grey whale, and wolverine. The wolverine, described as the largest member of the weasel family and possibly the strongest animal per unit of weight in the world, is profiled at length driving coyotes from a kill and tracking a grizzly bear's elk hunt in North American winter terrain.

The documentary proceeds through major sections on aquatic predators, reptiles, birds of prey, bears, and the great cats. Shark coverage addresses approximately 280 species, with focus on the great white shark, whose population is noted to have increased alongside the protected sea lion population. Greg Norman is briefly referenced by name in footage of shark fishing. Crocodilians covered include the American alligator in the Florida Everglades, the Nile crocodile, and the saltwater crocodile of southern Asia and northern Australia. A segment on reptiles covers the Komodo dragon of the islands of Komodo and Flores, the boa constrictor, the neotropical rattlesnake, and the reticulated python of East Asia. Bird coverage focuses on the golden eagle and the bald eagle of North America. Bear coverage addresses the black bear, the grizzly, and the Kodiak bear of Alaska across salmon fishing and hibernation sequences. The great cats section covers the mountain lion and its cubs in North America, the bobcat, the cheetah, the leopard, and the lion, followed by a closing section on vultures as scavengers.
