About

Painting Made Easy is an introductory decorative painting video hosted by Donna Dewberry, artist and creator of the Folk Art One Stroke Technique, produced in association with Plaid. The program is the companion to Dewberry's One Stroke Learn to Paint program and covers the fundamental technique of loading and working a flat brush to blend, shade, and highlight in a single stroke. Dewberry presents brush selection, paint loading, and chisel edge technique as the foundation of every project, using the three-quarter inch flat brush as the primary tool throughout.

The program teaches four main subjects: roses, using the apron petal technique working from the outer row to the center and adding rosebuds with the chisel edge; leaves, using a push-turn-lift motion that produces a natural vein; violets, using the scruffy brush for a base and the flat brush for individual purple-and-white petals; and daisies, pulling white paint toward the center from the outer petal edge. Stroke combinations for vines and curlicues are covered using the script liner. Dewberry demonstrates working on multiple surfaces including wood and canvas, going over wet paint, and recovering from mistakes. The program closes with an overview of three companion books containing patterns for continuing practice, and reference to the Plaid Folk Art product line used throughout. The tape runs approximately 25 minutes.
