About

Marilyn Manson: Demystifying the Devil is an unauthorized documentary produced in 1999, presenting the career of Marilyn Manson (born Brian Warner) through interviews with former associates, band members, and witnesses to the early South Florida music scene. The program opens with a brief radio broadcast fragment from a Florida station before transitioning to narration and a series of talking-head interviews with people who knew Warner before and during the band's formation. An early interviewee describes attending the filming of a documentary crew's visit to a studio where the band is present.

The documentary traces Warner's origins as a music journalist in Fort Lauderdale in 1987, covering the alternative scene and interviewing acts including the Thrill Kill Kult, an encounter that the program identifies as a turning point in Warner's artistic development. Daisy Berkowitz (Scott Putesky) is interviewed on his role in the early band, describing the South Florida club scene of the early 1990s when Ministry and Nine Inch Nails were influencing the direction of the music. The program covers the band's signing to Trent Reznor's Nothing Records in 1993 and their growing controversy through the mid-1990s, including protests by Christian groups and the Antichrist Superstar era. Interviews continue through the tape's approximately 88-minute runtime, covering the band's live performances, image, and cultural impact.
