About
Magic Eye the Video Volume 1 is a companion video to the Magic Eye book series, presenting hidden 3D autostereogram images on a television screen. The program opens with instruction on how to view stereograms: rather than focusing on the flat screen surface, the viewer must relax their eyes and look through the screen into the distance, as though looking far past a window. A candle or pen light held near the face can be used to establish the correct focal distance. The program notes that viewing may strengthen eye muscles that are rarely used and advises taking breaks if discomfort occurs.
The video is divided into three sections of increasing difficulty. The first and easier sections use floater-style images, where flat abstract patterns transform into three-dimensional scenes. The second type, hidden images, contain no visual clues as to what the embedded 3D subject is. Practice images demonstrated in the instruction section include coins floating in space and a hidden deer. Viewers are encouraged to teach the technique to others and to make a game of identifying hidden images throughout the tape.
