About
KMFDM Live in Dallas, January 28, 1990 is a video recording of the German industrial band KMFDM during their American tour, opening with a pre-show backstage interview conducted with band members in the dressing room. The interview subject is identified as Sasha, the singer, who speaks about the band's origins as an art project in 1984, the release of their first record What Do You Know Deutschland in 1986, and their evolution from sampling-based industrial music toward a crossover sound that resists categorization. Sasha also discusses his early punk background in Hamburg beginning in 1977, his history in bands including Smash, Crush, and Liquid Picks Under Pressure, and the role of sampling technology in the band's creative process. He shares his views on German reunification, expressing opposition and preference for two separate German states as a reminder of the consequences of National Socialism.
Other band members present and briefly introduced are Rudy the drummer and Nick and Gunther on guitar. A road manager facilitates the interview. The recorded performance follows the interview, running through the remainder of the tape with songs identifiable by repeated lyrical phrases.
