About

Golf Goofs and Classical Shots is a comedy and archive golf compilation mixing contemporary celebrity mishaps with historical instructional footage. The first segment presents candid tournament footage of professional and celebrity golfers making difficult, unusual, or comedic shots including shots into water, off rocks, and from extreme lies, accompanied by commentary from unseen announcers.

The historical archive section features technique demonstrations and biographical profiles of three golf legends. Sam Snead of West Virginia, identified as one of the most stylish winners of all time, is shown demonstrating his interlocking grip, iron shots, sand play, and putting. Walter Hagen of Rochester, New York, who ruled professional golf from 1914 to 1929, demonstrates how stance position produces hook and slice, and shows his own punching-style sand trap technique. Patty Berg of Minneapolis, described as winning 84 titles and 15 major championships, demonstrates her wide-arc backswing, left-shoulder-initiated downswing, and short game.

A segment covers professional athletes from other sports attempting golf, including baseball players Mark McGwire, George Brett, Gary Carter, and pitcher Frank Viola, and San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Dwight Clark. Jack Lemmon, described as a champion of the Frustrated Golfers of America, appears with commentary on the pressure of Pebble Beach and receives on-course coaching from Peter Jacobson. The tape closes with Lana K. Roberts, identified as a five-year-old trick golfer from Chicago whose father Johnny was a professional trick golfer, performing sand trap shots and trick shots. Joe Kirkwood appears as the master of trick golf, and Sammy Snead demonstrates the stymie shot. The final segment features Jack Lemmon paired with his son Chris at a celebrity tournament, with commentary on their respective handicaps of 16 and 14.
