About
Fat Blaster is a high-intensity aerobic and strength training workout from The Firm, billed as a total body workout featuring a 28-minute cardio phase. The program opens with a brief advertisement for the broader Firm video series, citing a New York Times endorsement and listing available titles including Total Body Shaping Mix, Super Sculpting, Cardio Split, Super Cardio, and the Firm Parts 4-pack. Master instructors Lisa Kay, Allie Strickland, and Nancy Tucker lead the workout.
The program begins with a standing warm-up incorporating spinal rolls, pelvic tucks, lateral flexion, and hamstring and calf stretches before moving into low-impact step aerobics. The cardio sequence builds through grapevines, plyometric jumps, bunny hops, skating movements, and short-box aerobic combinations involving basic climbs, knee lifts, L-steps, and travel patterns over the box. A forelimb aerobics section uses light dumbbells for heel lifts, abductor steps, kick fronts, and overhead presses. Tall box climbing adds reverse climbs, knee lifts, and heel digs. Additional cardio rounds introduce marching pivots, fast and slow jumps, small-box travel patterns with delt lifts and heel digs, and knee repeaters. Strength work includes box dips with bicep curls, overhead presses, and rhomboid pinches using a dowel; lunges with delt lifts; and prone work for spinal erectors and glutes. An abdominal series covers weighted crunches, oblique twists, reverse crunches, and rock-and-lift combinations. The cool-down uses double step touches, spinal rolls, lateral flexion, calf stretches, hamstring and quadriceps stretches, and plie lunges.
The workout uses both a short box and a tall box throughout, and a dowel is required for portions of the dip and stretching sequences.
