About
A beginner's Tai Chi instructional video hosted by David Carradine, featuring instruction by Arnold Tai-Am and opening with a testimonial from a woman with metastatic breast cancer who credits the practice with strengthening her immune system. The program teaches a short form of nine Chen-style Tai Chi movements organized across five sequential sections. A companion tape, David Carradine's Qigong Workout for Beginners, is promoted in the closing segment.
Section one, Opening the Gates, begins at 04:55 with joint warm-up exercises and deep breathing preparation. Section two, Specific Health, begins at 13:20 and teaches the nine Chen moves individually with health applications for each, including the single whip for spleen energy balance. Section three, Stillness, begins at approximately 32:25 with energy awareness exercises including palm sensing and lower abdomen energy visualization. Section four, Linkage, begins at 39:19 and combines all nine moves step by step into a continuous form. Section five, Coil and Flow, begins at 51:00 with Arnold Tai-Am demonstrating the complete form in continuous motion.
The program closes with a description of the companion Qigong tape covering stretches, cleansing exercises, Tai Chi-like movements, healing sounds, and meditations, and credits the form's origins to observing a fight between a snake and a crane.
