About
This tape is an unedited compilation of commercial breaks from the Green Bay, Wisconsin market, recorded across the late 1990s. The content spans from fall 1997 through fall 1999, with no single continuous recording session apparent.
The Edge, starring Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin and described as "now playing only in theaters," establishes a fall 1997 anchor — the film opened September 26, 1997. NYPD Blue is promoted as continuing after a break. Armstrong Furnace invites viewers to register to win a Super Bowl trip for two and tells them "Reggie wants to see you at the Super Bowl," a clear reference to Green Bay Packers defensive end Reggie White, who played for Green Bay from 1993 through 1998. Packer player Bernardo Harris is featured as a guest on Larry McCarren's locker room show, broadcast live from the Radisson Inn Monday nights at 6:30 on Channel 5. A WFRV TV 5 spring construction viewers guide runs with local sponsors.
The later portion of the tape includes content from 1999. Dodge's Adventure 99 promotion offers a $1,500 cash allowance or a vacation package to Universal Studios Islands of Adventure in Orlando — the theme park opened May 28, 1999. Dodge Ram 2000 model year pickups are offered with a $1,000 cash allowance. Van Brede's electronics and appliances advertises no interest until May 2001 — described as two full years — placing the offer in 1999. Priceline.com is promoted for hotel booking. Delphi Automotive Systems highlights its advanced safety and collision warning technologies.
Local Green Bay advertisers appearing throughout include Bisbee's Golf Center two miles east of Highway 141 on Highway 29, Tillman's lawn service with over 50 years serving Green Bay, Oak Express furniture in Appleton and Green Bay, and Madison Media Institute for recording technology careers. Northland Cranberry Juice Blends and Domino's Heatwave delivery bag appear as national advertisers.
