About

This film shows experiments which illustrate the way in which light normally moves, how it bends and is refracted, how a prism separates white light into its component colors, and various applications of lasers.

About the film, producer Tom Smith writes: "Learning About Light” (1975) is one of a series of junior high physics films made by Thomas Smith. In addition to this film, the 6-film series include: “Learning about Sound,” “Learning about Magnetism,” “Learning about Electric Current,” “Learning about Heat” and “Learning about Nuclear Energy.” The technical collaborator and originator of many of the film’s demonstrations, was Dr. Albert V. Baez (1912-2007). Baez, was a prominent Mexican-American physicist, and the father of singers Joan Baez and Mimi Fariña. He made important contributions to the early development of X- ray Microscope and later the X-Ray telescopes. Baez advised on many EBF physics projects. We are in the process of finding good prints of the other five in the series so we can upload them to the Internet Archive."
