Greed (1924)

Erich von Stroheim

Silent

About

A woman's lust for money leads her dentist husband to commit murder. Directed by Oscar-nominee actor/director Erich von Stroheim ("Sunset Boulevard"). Despite being cut from its original eight hour length, it remains one of the greatest silent films ever produced. This is a fanmade reconstruction of the original release version that audiences saw back in 1924; It uses high quality footage from Rick Schmidlin's 4-hour reconstruction of the film available on iTunes and it's complemented with intertitles and bits from a VHS print released by MGM in 1989. Carl Davis' score was removed from this online upload to avoid copyright strikes, although it may be useful as means to claim a decent home-video release of the film ( now that it is in the Public Domain ) .
