About
The same stories are repeated (she grew up poor, Elvis, Whitney Houston, Imagination Library, etc.), but each of these have different footage, different stories, and I included several that looked at the multidimensional entertainer from different angles.
NOTE: There's more stuff forthcoming. I have issues with the archive's wonky uploader and a slow internet connection.
Bravo Profiles Dolly Parton: Diamond in a Rhinestone World (1999)
Dolly Parton discusses her life, career, music and movies. Punctuated by rare footage, it also includes comments from Jane Fonda, Dolly's siblings Stella and Randy Parton, and others.
Dolly Parton: An American Original (2026)
ABC's retrospective that aired after Dolly's death.
Dolly: An NBC News Special (2026)
NBC's retrospective special.
Dolly Parton l'Amérique réconciliée [America Reunited] (2025)
A hidden gem that's largely in English, with French narration (English and French subtitles are available as .srt files). The makers of this TV special scoured news archives worldwide and included tons of rare, high-quality footage dating back to Dolly's early days. The narration is honestly pretty "woke," focusing on the progressivism in Dolly's music that was evident from the start, and how she managed to unite people across cultures and political divides.
Dolly Parton's Quilt of Many Colors (2026) LGBTQ historian Matt Baume discusses Parton's open ties to the queer community before that was considered socially acceptable, as well as an Oscar-winning documentary about the AIDS quilt that she produced at the height of the disease's devastation.
Dolly Parton's Secret Life on Kids' TV (2026) Fever Dream Nostalgia investigates Dolly's 50 year history of entertainment directly geared toward children.
