About

Joseph L Mankiewicz (The Ghost and Mrs Muir, All About Eve) directed and John Houseman (The Bad and the Beautiful, Lust for Life) produced this unforgettable film based on William Shakespeare's Play JULIUS CAESAR. The film is an intense, passionate drama about conspiracy, murder and the use and abuse of power in Ancient Rome vividly visualized on screen with the Academy Award winning designs of art directors Cedric Gibbons and Edward Carfagno and the stark camerawork of Joseph Ruttenberg. The musical score by Mikolos Rozsa enhances and intensifies the dramatic urgency of the gripping narrative woven around the assassination of Julius Caesar and the conflict between Caesar's followers Octavius Caesar and Mart Antony and the assassins Brutus and Cassius leading to the fateful Battle of Phillippi. The cast is magnificent in bringing the enthralling characters to life. The players include Louis Calhern as Julius Caesar, Greer Garson as Caesar's Wife Calpurina, Marlon Brando as Mark Antony, James Mason as Brutus, Deborah Kerr as his wife Portia, John Gielgud (unforgettable) as Cassius, Edmond O'Brien as Casca, Michael Pate as Flavius, George Macready as Marullus, and John Hoyt as Decius Brutus. This film will be one of your proudest possessions in your movies-on-video library.
