About
This poignant WWII short film "Refugees" looks at the plight of some of the displaced persons of Europe and discusses the responsibility the U.S. Army has to care for them. At 1:49, destitute Italian civilians are evacuated aboard an L.S.T. At 2:08, a man is deloused by an Italian soldier using DDT. At 2:20, children cling to their surviving parents. At 2:39, a small crowd of orphans are shown. At 2:50, clothing is distributed to the refugees. At 3;16, refugees are interviewed in hopes of being reunited with family members. At 3:30, food is served to women, children, and the elderly at a temporary shelter. At 3:56 a hospital is shown where a refugee has just had a baby. At 4:10, refugees move to a camp in Southern Italy for resettlement. At 4:35 a young, distraught girl cries and moves away from the camera as the narrator hopefully comments that the work of many may someday "put a smile back on her face."
