About

GRANITE BLOCK PAVEMENT Produced: 1920

Description A map shows the location of granite deposits in the U.S. Pneumatic drills and derricks are used to mine the granite. Granite is split into paving blocks and tested for durability. A concrete base is laid for a granite road, the blocks are tamped into position, and grout (a cement mixture) is poured into the crevices. Emphasizes the availability and durability of granite for use on heavily trafficked city streets.
