About

Content advisory: Scenes of animal butchering.

In postwar Japan, the streets and food markets of Tokyo are filmed with close attention including night markets and day markets; abundant fish hauls arriving at the dock; market organization and distribution of daikon, and particular attention to detail as a snake chef welcomes the camera to observe snake rearing, harvesting, and butchering. The snake meat is then processed into a meal and served to waiting businessmen. With dance performance and a Japanese new year celebration. Filmed in a semiprofessional mode with tripod stabilization of the image and sophisticated lighting technique. The filmmaker likely had made prior arrangements with photographic subjects as people appearing as subjects do not appear to notice the camera.

Human-made No record of this work says a model made it. What this means.
