About

A tourist produced this reel with skill and a sense for documentation, showing devotional and quotidian scenes in southeast Asia in the mid-1930s. Highlights include a visit to Borobudur Temple in Java, the largest Buddhist temple in the world, and to Zhenhai Tower, the Five-Story Pagoda in Guangzhou. Also with many street scenes of local life in the interwar years. Most street scenes filmed in Indonesia, with short sequences in Hong Kong, show many types of daily labor including transportation, construction, and laundry including women's labor.

Human-made No record of this work says a model made it. What this means.
