About
Content advisory: Antisemitic language; antisemitism; Nazi personnel, assembly activity, and iconography.
The natural beauty of the Bavarian region of Germany contrasts with the dark shadow of Third Reich activity in the late 1930s expressed in this reel through Nazi personnel assembly activity in the form of parades and folk life festival activities taking place in the city of Nuremberg, likely peripheral to a Nuremberg Rally. Otherwise the American tourists who created this reel focus on street scenes and everyday life before World War II: youths on the way to school and engaged in daily chores; children and adults in traditional German dress, bicycles and produce markets, and rural landscapes and Medieval architecture. Shown at the end is a sign for the town of Farchant that includes the message "Juden Unerwunscht" or "Jews Unwelcome."
can notes: "Baden Baden Rhine #3 '28" [Year is incorrect: reel exposed between 1936 and 1939, likely 1937]
