Hal Kirn, Director of the AV Planning Division of the Office of Civil Defense, wrote this to promote the film: "No glamor in civil defense? In "One Week in October," a new film coming out this month, we've stolen every exciting plane, tank, Polaris, and missile shot that the Army, Navy, and Air Force have to dramatize the story of the Cuban crisis. Much of the film, shot by service cameramen, has never been declassified until now. We've added narration by Gary Merrill and an original music score by the distinguished composer-conductor Ken Hopkins." Kirn, Hal. "How Films Inform America About Civil Defense."
