About
Educational film about the industrialization of the continent of South America and the role that the countries of this continent played in supporting the allies during World War II. Also covers topics such as trade, agriculture, and infrastructure. Addresses traditional food, farming, craft, and building practices from a United States imperialist perspective, with a patronizing and paternalistic attitude towards the people of South America.
"Produced by Willard Van Dyke for the Foreign Policy Association, under a grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. Deals with the economic basis of trade relations between Latin America and the rest of the world. Develops the thesis that air transportation and travel will probably play a larger part than anything else in modernizing the remote, inaccessible regions of Latin America." From Educational Film Guide, 1953.
