About
All of us in this trust have a responsibility to support and protect those in greatest need and keep them safe from harm or abuse.
This particularly applies to vulnerable adults. These are people who because of mental or other disability, age or illness, are unable to take care of themselves or protect themselves, and may be exploited or be subject to significant harm or abuse. What does this mean in practice? It means that when coming in to contact with or caring for vulnerable adults you have a responsibility to take action where you suspect there is abuse or neglect. This can be physical, sexual, psychological or financial abuse, or it could be neglect, poor care, discrimination or poor professional practice. If you are concerned that significant or serious harm has occurred or is likely to occur to a vulnerable adult, you have a responsibility to discuss it with your manager and make a safeguarding alert to care direct (08451551007) you must also report it as an incident on DATIX, identifying it as a safeguarding adult issue. In the Trusts safeguarding adult policy there is a really helpful flowchart to help you make a decision on what you need to do, and the other options available to you. In addition, please attend one of our safeguarding adult courses or get more information from the policy document, your manager, or me.
